Instructor: Jeff Hart

Days/Time:  Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays, 9:10-10:00am

STAT 689

Title:  Applied Statistics and Data Analysis

Instructor: Mike Sherman

Days/Time:  Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:35am - 10:50am

Department of Computer Science-Fall 2009

STAT 689

Title:  Predictive Computational Science and Engineering

Instructor: Ryan McClarren

Days/Time:  Mondays & Wednesdays, 11:30am- 12:45pm

Prerequisite :  Approval of instructor

Information: Under the umbrella of "predictive computation" we need to quantitatively assess, rigorously and transparently, the degree to which 1) the code correctly solves the underlying equations, 2) the equations are an adequate description of the behavior for the system of interest, and 3) we can properly characterize how uncertainties in the inputs to the code manifest themselves in uncertainties in the predictions.

Department of Mathematics Fall 2009

689

Title:  Introduction to Microlocal Analysis

Instructor: Peter Kuchment

Days/Time:  Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2:20-3:35pm

Information:

Microlocal analysis is an important technique in the contemporary partial diferential equations, harmonic analysis, and complex analysis, knowledge of the basics of which should be in the toolbox of any analyst working in these areas and their applications. Among the applied topics where microlocal analysis plays a major role one can mention for instance medical imaging, geophysics, seismology, industrial non-distructive testing, and mathematical physics.
