Modern Trends in High Performance Computing

April 8, 2013

11:30 a.m.

E.N. (Mootaz) Elnozahy

Abstract

The talk describes a supercomputer that I was involved in leading its research phase and design. The talk will cover:

The central role that the Interconnect plays in overall system performance, and

how we restructured the traditional way of designing supercomputers to achieve.

the lowest latency while enabling uses that were not possible before.

The power crisis and its implications for current and future systems.

Modern programming languages such as Partitioned Address Space languages and

how they influence the networking topology and overall system design.

The talk targets members of the technical community who would like to get an in-depth, yet compressed coverage of the issues related to the design, implementation and programming of supercomputers and high-performance computing systems. The treatment is practical and draws from the industrial experience of the presenter.
