Guermond is a graduate of Paris 6 University (Pierre and Marie Curie University) and ENSTA (Ecole Nationale Superieure de Techniques Avancees). He earned his master’s and doctorate degrees at Paris 6 University, in theoretical mechanics in 1983 and 1985, respectively. Guermond also completed additional work at Paris 6 in the 1990s, including Mathematics French Aggregation (1990) and Mathematics Habilitation Dissertation (1995). Guermond presently serves as professor in the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M, having come to Texas A&M in 2004. Prior to that he was visiting professor at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences (ICES) at the University of Texas at Austin (2001 to 2003). From 2001 to the present he has served as directeur de recherche (research director) at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Laboratoire d’Informatique pour la mecanique et les sciences de l’ingenieur (LIMSI) in Orsay, France. Guermond was research scientist at the same institution from 1990 to 2001. Also at CNRS-LIMSI, Guermond was head of the Turbulence and Fluid Dynamics group from 2000 to 2004. He serves as associate editor of the Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications (JMAA) and International Journal of Numerical Analysis and Modeling (IJNAM), and as a referee for scientific journals, and various agencies. Guermond reviews numerous papers, books, and proposals per year.
