Valerie Taylor served IAMCS as co-leader of Research Core 3 (Data-Driven Computational Science and Visualization). Taylor is the Royce E. Wisenbaker Professor and Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Texas A&M.  Before coming to Texas A&M, Taylor was professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northwestern University. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer and electrical engineering at Purdue University, and went on to pursue her doctorate in electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. She received her doctoral degree in 1991. Taylor has been the recipient of many awards and distinctions throughout her career, from the National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award in 1993 to such achievements as National Technical Association Computer Engineer of the Year (1994), Hewlett-Packard sponsored IEEE Harriet B. Rigas Award (2001), University of California Berkeley Engineering Alumni Outstanding Young Leader Award (2002), and the Computing Research Association’s A. Nico Habermann Award (2002). Taylor has assisted in many ongoing conferences, including Celebration of Diversity in Computing conferences and symposiums (multiple years) and Celebration of Women in Computing conferences.
