Transmission-Recovery Tradeoff in Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases

Renata Ivanek
Abstract
Dr. Ivanek will start her talk by introducing the transmission-recovery tradeoff theory which has a great value in studying the evolutionary epidemiology of infectious diseases. The theory provides a much-needed mathematical platform on which to organize empirical knowledge and identify evolutionary sustainable strategies for control of infectious diseases. However, the available empirical data for several infectious diseases contradict the predictions of the tradeoff theory. The nature and implications of the disagreement will be discussed using examples of infectious diseases studied in Dr. Ivanek’s group.
