Peter Kuchment is leader of Research Core 2 (Deterministic and Statistical Methods in Inverse Problems) for the Institute. Kuchment has taught in the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M since 2001. He is professor in the department at this time. Prior to coming to Texas A&M, Kuchment was on the Mathematics faculty at Wichita State University, from 1990 until 2001. He was a longtime member of the faculty of Voronezh Forestry Institute and Voronezh State University, in the former U.S.S.R., serving those institutions in progressively responsible positions from 1972 until 1989. Kuchment earned his master’s in mathematics at Voronezh State University in 1971, followed by a doctorate in the same subject at Kharkov State University, also in the former Soviet Union, in 1973. He also earned a D.Sci. degree in mathematics and physics from the Mathematics Institute in the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1983. Kuchment has received multiple research grants from the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, Binational Science Foundation, and the National Research Council. His grant work has focused on mathematical physics, inverse problems, medical imaging, partial differential equations, and education. He has organized numerous regional, national, and international conferences and programs on inverse problems and tomography, mathematical physics (including problems of material science and optics), and graph theory.
