Raytcho Lazarov is a researcher in Core 1 at the Institute. Lazarov has an advanced degree of Dr.Sci. in computational mathematics from Sofia University, Bulgaria, 1982, a doctorate in mathematics and physics from Moscow State University, Russia, 1972, and master’s in mathematics from Wroclaw University, Poland, 1966. Lazarov is professor in the Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M, where he has served since 1992. Before coming to Texas A&M, Lazarov was professor of mathematics at the University of Wyoming (1991-1992) and at Sofia University from 1985 to 1989. Concurrently with that appointment, he was also a professor and director of the Laboratory of Parallel Algorithms in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (from 1985 to 1991). Lazarov was a visiting researcher, researcher and research associate at several other institutions early in his career as well. Lazarov holds or has held a number of editorial positions for several scholarly publications, including Computational Methods in Applied Mathematics (editor, 2005–present); Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) J. on Numerical Analysis (editor, 1999–2004); J. of Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations (member of editorial board, 1985–present); and J. of Numerical Mathematics (member of editorial board, 1989–present). Lazarov has received multiple research grants from the National Science Foundation, Environmental Protection Agency, CRDF, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His grant work has focused on mathematical modeling, numerical methods for partial differential equations, and large scale scientific computing.
