Vivek Sarin is a researcher in Core 3 at the institute and an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science in the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M. Sarin obtained his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi in 1990. He then received his master’s degree in 1993 from the University of Minnesota in computer science, and his doctorate in computer science in 1997 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before coming to Texas A&M in 1999 as an assistant professor, Sarin was a research associate at Purdue University. His awards consist of a National Science Foundation Early Career Development (CAREER) Award, an IBM Faculty Partnership Award, a Texas Engineering Experiment Station Select Young Faculty Award and a Texas Engineering Experiment Station Special Research Fellow Award. Currently, Sarin is principal investigator for “Preconditioning Techniques for Linear Systems of Equations” and a Co-Principal Investigator in the “ITR: Coastal Modeling and Management” research initiative, both of which are supported by the National Science Foundation. He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Society for Industrial Applied Mathematics.
